Helen Hopcoft
Helen Hopcroft is an artist and writer who grew up on the island of Tasmania, completed a Fine Arts degree in Hobart and traveled to London to complete a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art (1992-1994). Returning to Australia to live in 2000, she participated in the Adelaide Festival with a solo exhibition of paintings. One of Helen’s images was used as the 2000 Festival poster (Sex makes me dizzy: a painting in the collection of Festival Director Robyn Archer) while her poetry was reproduced on Festival merchandise. Her publication list includes Ceramic Art & Perception magazine, the Australian newspaper, Sydney Morning Herald, NAVA quarterly and unsweetened (UNSW literary review). She is currently working on a crime novel set in Newcastle, Australia.
Caelli Jo Brooker
Caelli Jo Brooker is an artist, designer and PhD candidate in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle, Australia, undertaking research exploring materiality and mark-making in the digital age. She came to art and design through printmaking, and her practice engages with line and gesture as visual language and the deconstruction of figurative elements into organic abstraction. She teaches graphic design at the Design Centre, Hunter TAFE and has worked as an arts admistrator, curator and ARI gallery director. Caelli is currently working on a series of design-based zines refashioning tales from popular and folk culture.
Caelli and Helen have previously worked together as the curators of Happily Ever After: alternative destinies in contemporary feminine narrative, a group artists' book exhibition exploring fairy tales and featuring collaborations between artists and writers.
